Adyen expands Canadian operations with Toronto office and appoints new head of sales

Fintech firm Adyen has opened a new office in Toronto to anchor its Canadian operations and named Ilona Fagyas head of sales. This new hub will reportedly be the company’s headquarters in Canada.

Since 2020, Adyen has significantly strengthened its presence in Canada, expanding its team to 26 employees who support local and international businesses. Fagyas joins Adyen as head of sales for Canada.

Sander Meijers, Adyen Canada Country Manager, said: “The opening of Adyen’s Toronto office represents a significant milestone for Adyen Canada on our expansion journey. Our growth is driven by our dedicated team, who continually support our growing client base with innovative payment technologies. Advances in Payments Technology has pushed many organizations and businesses to reshape their technology stack and operations for greater flexibility and convenience payments .”

With over 15 years of sales management experience in the Canadian fintech industry, Ilona brings extensive experience from her previous roles at TD, Chase and PayPal. Her background includes numerous President’s Club designations for outstanding contributions to sales performance. At Adyen, Ilona will focus on expanding the company’s presence in Canada and enhancing its business operations.

Adyen’s innovative financial technology platform is transforming payment solutions across Canada. The company has established local partnerships, launched new products and enlisted merchants like Moose Knuckles and Mejuri.

Adyen expands partnerships

More recently, Adyen in collaboration with Vapiano, a group of Italian restaurants, to improve the group’s customer experience. Through this collaboration, Adyen will enhance the checkout process at Vapiano by allowing guests to customize their checkout and place food orders via mobile phone using digital wallet payments.

This partnership is the result of an initiative undertaken at one of Vapiano’s London restaurants, which revealed that 80% of orders were completed via mobile phones, highlighting a growing interest in more payment options.

Also, Adyen collaborated with Cotti Caffè, a coffee chain. This agreement aims to expand Cotti Coffee’s services into Canada, Australia, Japan, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. Since opening its initial store in October 2022, Cotti Coffee has expanded to 28 countries and regions around the world.
