Cryptocurrency thefts double to R25bn in first half of 2024 – report

The amount of cryptocurrency stolen through cyberattacks globally has more than doubled in the first six months of 2024 compared to the previous year, driven by a limited number of large attacks and rising cryptocurrency prices, blockchain researchers TRM Labs said Friday.
According to a report by TRM Labs, by June 24, 2024, hackers had stolen more than $1.38 billion (R25 billion) worth of cryptocurrency, up from $657 million in the same period in 2023.
