For the sixth consecutive year, EBAday hosted a dedicated Fintech Zone, where 16 cutting-edge fintech startups from across Europe and beyond presented their proof of concepts and working products at the exhibition area in Lisbon, Portugal.

Announced as the winner of the 2024 Fintech Zone was Lune, who received an award from Geertjan Van Bochove, co-founder, COO and CFO of iPiD, the winner of the 2023 Fintech Zone at EBAday in Madrid.

Lune is on a mission to make every product positive by default, through its own application programming interface (API); help companies integrate climate action into their products. At EBAday Lune was represented by Olivia Howlett, the company’s marketing manager, who presented the Fintech Zone, and Oliver Laxton, who deals with business development.

Accepting the Fintech Zone winner’s trophy, Olivia Howlett said: “Thank you so much. It’s great to see climate integrated into finance. I also want to thank the other companies that participated. This is the most fascinating phase for me: it’s great to see all the ideas.”

The other 15 Fintech Zone finalists were: Im-Par, Necto, nsKnox, Neterium, Lucinity, Abbey Cross, Movitz Payments, Equali, Bankish, ChainComply, Lemonero, Instarails, Kodex AI, TradeHeader and Banxlocal.uk.

This year’s shortlist of fintech startups showcased promising concepts in next-generation banking, payments as a service, instant payments, payment requests, identity services, fraud prevention, central bank digital currencies ( CBDC), as well as cross-payments at the border.

All 16 finalists attended EBAday for the opportunity to network and present their products to key payment processors and banking executives on the judging panel, during a dedicated five-minute slot.

The EBAday Fintech Zone 2024 jury included:

  • Michael Knetsch, Head of Instant Payments Tribe, Cash Management, Deutsche Bank
  • Kevin Brown, non-executive director, consultant and angel investor, Payments Industry Insights
  • Paul Thomalla, non-executive director, Unifits
  • Teresa Connors, Managing Director, Payment Matters
  • John Mitchell, editor, Sell It Better
  • Vincent Brennan, banking and payments consultant, Accenture

Announcing the winner, Daniel Szmukler, director of the EBA, said: “Just a word about Lune and what the judges thought was a really compelling submission – and something we haven’t seen in six years. Lune is a climate impact company and has developed an API that helps banks track their climate emissions, but also gives them a much more horizontal perspective on offerings…”
