The FinTech industry unites behind Project Nemo
Today, Project Nemo announces that support from across the FinTech sector is enabling the disability inclusion initiative to be exposed to Money20/20to raise greater awareness of the need to better serve the UK’s largest minority.
Project Nemo is a grassroots initiative led by Joanne Dewar, an industry champion and former FinTech CEO. The project, which works with disability advocates and service providers to educate on how to make the sector more inclusive, was launched at the Innovate Finance Global Summit in April to spread support for the sector.
Thanks to the efforts of the Money20/20 team themselves, on Thursday 6 June Joanne Dewar will lead a workshop at the Money Beach Club on the business case for disability inclusion in financial technology, together with Dutch accessibility specialists Max Inclusion. With support from sponsors including Ecommpay, The Pie Factory, Standbuilders, Fox Williams and EWPN, Project Nemo has secured the design and construction of the stand and, importantly, will be bringing a team to the Money20/20 show floor to drive greater awareness and awareness of disability inclusion principles among FinTech participants.
Joanne Dewar, project manager, Project Nemo, comments: “The entire Money20/20 team helped enable Project Nemo to bring its message to audiences in Amsterdam and secured further support from Ecommpay, The Pie Factory, Standbuilders, Fox Williams and EWPN to truly maximize our impact at the conference demonstrates that people are moving towards disability inclusion.
“I am incredibly grateful to all of our sponsors for the opportunity to share Project Nemo with key industry stakeholders at the largest FinTech conference of the year. It seems particularly fortuitous that Project Nemo’s journey began in earnest at Money20/20 last year, where I spoke on multiple panels about the importance of accessibility in payments and received overwhelming feedback that I should channel my passion in an initiative that could lead to significant change. “
Miranda McLean, Chief Marketing Officer at Ecompay, says: “We are pleased to support Project Nemo. Increasing inclusion and accessibility in the FinTech sector is crucial: our sector has the opportunity to lead the way and we want to be a driving force for this change, enhancing the sector’s reputation and encouraging future generations to see it as a attractive career path. The FinTech space is for everyone, but there is still a lot of work to do to make the sector accessible to all.”
Melanie Ockerse, EWPN Executive Committee member, adds: “It’s wonderful to see the collective recognition of the need to ensure accessibility of all products and services and that there is a genuine desire to learn. FinTech has the opportunity to harness the power of the latest assistive technologies to make a transformative impact, and we are proud to support Project Nemo as it educates the wider industry.”
