The US fintech will create 54 jobs at its new research and development center in Limerick

The city of Limerick has been chosen by North American Bancard as the ideal site for a new research and development center of excellence.

US fintech company North American Bancard (NAB) today (10 June) announced the creation of 54 jobs in Limerick city at a new research and development center of excellence.

The new center will be responsible for developing the company’s portfolio of risk management products and services, with a focus on addressing the global problem of payment fraud.

Michigan-based NAB is looking to hire a variety of qualified professionals, such as product managers, architects, scrum masters, UX designers, front-end developers, back-end developers, DevOps engineers and data scientists, to be based at the facility of Limerick.

Future plans include building an enterprise risk management service for fintech providers and financial institutions that uses a cloud-based architecture, real-time event processing, data lakes, artificial intelligence and an intuitive case management system .

Minister for Business, Trade and Employment Peter Burke, TD, described the announcement as “great news” for the Midwest region. “Limerick has the optimal level of skills and talent for NAB to thrive here and the new roles will provide excellent employment opportunities for our graduates across a range of disciplines,” he said.

“It is fantastic to begin our journey to establish a presence in Ireland, and in particular the Limerick region,” said Dr Christopher Mascaro, NAB Risk Manager. “As a company, NAB is committed to providing cutting-edge payment solutions that meet the needs of all our partners and merchants, across a broad spectrum of industries. Ensuring our partners are protected in an ever-evolving fraud landscape is a critical step on the journey.”

Mary Buckley, executive director of IDA Ireland, which supported the company’s move, described it as “a significant and ambitious addition to the thriving cluster of technology-led companies in the Midwest”.

“This move highlights the region’s exceptional talent and technical capabilities, further raising its profile as a hub for payments investment and advanced research and development initiatives.”
