Twenty high-quality training places are available at the FinTech Foundation Academy run by Newry-based company First Derivative.

Fully funded by the Department for Economics, the academy will be run in partnership with Southern Regional College (SRC), with training delivered on-site at the Newry campus.

Economy Minister Conor Murphy said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a world-leading financial services company. No previous experience is required, so it is open to young people who have just completed their A-levels and are taking the first steps in their careers. It is also an option for more experienced people who are looking to change careers or return to work.

“There is a weekly training allowance of £175 and a travel expenses allowance during the academy. There is also support for childcare expenses. I would encourage anyone interested to apply.”

Fiona McGilly, Chief People Officer at First Derivative, said: “We are thrilled to be working with the Department for Economic Affairs and the SRC to launch our third Assured Skills Academy, which represents a great opportunity for people with A-level or equivalent qualifications to start their career in fintech and gain essential financial and technical skills that the industry requires.

“At First Derivative, our diverse talent is something we are extremely proud of and this academy will provide us with the opportunity to upskill more local talent.”

Lee Campbell, Interim Dean and CEO of SRC, said: “Southern Regional College is delighted to partner with the Department and First Derivative to provide another outstanding opportunity for students to gain the skills needed for a successful career in the financial services industry.

“I encourage those seeking professional growth or considering a career change to explore this academy. Previous academies have proven successful in equipping participants with high-quality training and providing employment opportunities in our local economy.”

Academy participants will receive industry-relevant training with SRC from October 21st to December 13th and those who successfully complete the program will be guaranteed an interview with First Derivative for a trainee analyst position.

Registration for the academy is open until midday on August 27 (more information on https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/fintech-foundation-academy-first-derivative)
